Xincun Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named by the No. 1 Regional Survey Party under the Geological Bureau of Sichuan Province in 1966. The naming section is located in the Xincun Village to the Guangou area, Changxin Township, Huidong County.
Synonym: (新村组)
Lithology and Thickness
Lower member is composed of grey-white and light-yellow massive arkosic quartz-sandstone and pebble-bearing sandstone, with the upper part of the lower member gradating into dark purple, grey and yellow-grey shales and sandy mudstones, intercalated with poststones (=fine-grained sandstone). Upper member is composed largely of grey-violet, dark-violet ad grey-green mudstones and shales, intercalated with a small amount of sandstone, marl and bioclastic limestone. Total thickness of 500-1000 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It underlies conformably the Yimen Fm
Upper contact
Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Niugundang Fm
Regional extent
The formation is distributed in Huili, Huidong, Xichang, Xide and Zhaojue regions of southwestern Sichuan, with a consistent lithology.

Fossils
It yields Ostracoda fossils such as Darwinula sarytirmenensis, D. impudica and Tinmiriasevia bella; and bivalve fossils as represented by Unio khomemtoskii and Cuneopsis johannisboehm.
